PROJECT BRIEF:
I was assigned to design a loft apartment located in New York City. The client is Karl, 28, and his girlfriend Anna. Karl is an Iraq war veteran who suffers from PTSD. He enjoys hiking and biking and will frequently compete in tough mudder events. Anna does online management training and requires a quiet place to hold group sessions. The site is an L-shaped floor plan with fixed exterior windows and interior windows able to be changed overlooking a park area.
CONCEPT
When researching for this project I discovered that the war Veterans with PTSD are always on constant alert, and always worried about what may pop up behind them. I chose the concept of continuity and letting spaces flow into each other to create a sense of peace and ease for Karl. The flooring on the main floor has a darker wood strip that flows through multiple rooms. I also used acoustical cushions on the walls of the bedroom and stayed away from ceiling fans to prevent panic attacks. For the overall feel, I even included an at-home gym with a personal rock climbing "moon board" to help with Karl's at-home training. There is also an office space for Anna.

Before this project was updated all of my drawings were hand done. I want to include these drawings to show my progression as a designer and my ability to hand draft.
