Project Brief:
For this project, we were assigned to make a tea house with a site located in New York City. Each student was given a different culture to base their tea house after. I was given Japan and created a traditional Japanese Tea House. The site was a long building with a loading dock in the back. Above you can see the conceptual piece I created in the early stages of this project and on the right is my branding logo for the shop.

Concept:
This tea house includes traditional Japanese paper windows within walls with a black grid. These walls are moveable throughout the space. In traditional Japanese tea houses, there are private tea tasting rooms, the moveable walls can close up tasting rooms when they are in use to create privacy. During the night these walls can be moved to close and lock up the retail areas. The moveable walls can create many different experiences. The interior design is very neutral using lighter woods, slatted woods on the walls, and green colors in the cushions and plants. The tea dishware is all black making it pop and be the focus of the space. The black pops in the paper windows, dishware, and furniture create a beautiful contrast.

Before I updated this project everything was hand-drawn, I wanted to include the hand drawings of this project to show my progress as a designer as well as my experience in hand drafting.
