For this project, we designed a beer brewery. We created diagrams based on research which were then translated into the building. In the early stages of diagraming, I found the large kettles of the beer brewing process to be fascinating. I wanted the kettles and the 4 boiling parts of the beer-making process to be the center of focus and the other parts of the beer-making process surround it. Then people can interact with the space according to those levels of importance. One the right you can see how my diagram develops over time. In early models, the pink circles represent more public spaces. For the final diagram, you start at the classrooms and walk through the different parts of the process of being compressed and released in and out of spaces.
CONCEPT:
The main concept of my beer brewery is compression and release. Hallways are compressed as you walk through the process and you are then released into areas where the equipment is held. I wanted the brewery to be a social place where anyone can come and experience the beer brewing process. As you walk through the space you are guided through the processes of beer making in order. The kettles are the centerpiece of my design as I found them to be the most important part of the process. All other parts of the process surround the kettles. We created these concepts off of a diagramming exercise which is shown in the next slide.
